Fun with Daddy!

These kids love their Daddy!

Quotes

Last night at dinner Lucy and Samuel wanted to know why I had to be a nurse when I got out of school. They don't want me to work at all but I thought I would find out what they would rather have Mama do.

Mama: "So, what would you want me to be instead of a nurse?"
Samuel: "How about a Circus Performer..."
Lucy: "...or a garbage woman"
Mama: "Why would you want me to be a garbage woman?"
Lucy: "So we could see you while you are working and taking out our garbage!"
Daddy: "What would Mama do in the circus?"
Lucy: "Be an Acrobat!"
Daddy: "But if Mama was in the circus she would be gone alot"
Samuel: "OK, she can be a garbage woman!"

Samuel is getting used to his kindergarten schedule and also to the feeling of wanting to stay in bed too long...

Samuel: "Mama,do you know why I didn't get out of bed when you told me too."
Mama: "No Buddy."
Samuel: "I was having a good dream and I was trying to get to a part so I could stick a bookmark in my head until I went to sleep again tonight."

Lucy and I were eating together last week and she asked

Lucy: "Mama, why is the fork longer than the spoon?"
Mama: "I don't know."
Lucy: "Maybe that's a good hypopsis (hypothesis)for brother."

Goodbye, dear friend

Dear Summer 2010 -

Thank You for your long days to play with my children, your sun and rain to water my garden and your lazy Sunday's to nap and rest. What a wonderful time we had on the slip and slide, camping in the mountains, Grandma Camp, going to weddings, having a Grand-vacation, having a Narnia party, playing frisbee tag, filling the turtle pool and splashing at swim lessons! We enjoyed your heat, your 98% humidity and your ability to make those precious days a little longer than usual with your long sunlight. I'll remember the books we read in your afternoon heat, the craft projects we made while we hid in the shade of our home and the sweet tea we sipped while we took a break from the breezeless sauna outside. I'll remember their smiles, their laughs, their precious little heart and minds as we enjoyed it all together....

Soon the days will cool off, the football games will roar and you, sweet Summer 2010, will be tucked away as a memory - a sweet, sweet memory...farewell, my friend, you will not be forgotten.

Fondly,
Kelly

Cardboard Creations

Samuel has taken to creating his own "action figures" this summer using his empty toilet paper rolls {ETPR}. If we read a story or he sees something he wants to play with he just draws it or has me draw something for him. He told Jeremy "Daddy, I have a great idea, whenever we want a toy all we have to do is make it!" We're all for that!

The latest recruits to Samuel's army...

The cardboard castle and long line of army guys ready for battle...

Lucy and I spent some time last week putting a dryer box to good use. She and Samuel have been wanting a treehouse - Swiss Family Robinson style - but since the trees in our yard aren't even big enough to hang a bird feeder in we had to improvise. Lucy has also read a couple of stories about Fairies, so we made the Ever Tree from Neverland where the fairies live. She put her kitchen stuff inside and said she would be a cooking fairy like Dulcie. She painted some birds on the tree and helped me decorate - it requires some imagination to make it come to life but it's a treehouse to play in in her room.

Kindergaten PE Days

On PE days Samuel gets to wear his PE outfit - the t-shirt they gave him is a little big but he feels "comfy and cozy" Here he is

Beer, Bears, Deer and a fairy

On the way home from dropping off Samuel at school, Lucy asked me about a sign on the side of a truck and what it was for - because there were puppies on it (it was a Yuengling Truck). I told her it was an advertisement for drinks - here is the rest

Lucy: "What is that picture on that truck, Mama?"
Mama: " It's just an advertisement for drinks"
Lucy: "But, what kind of drinks Mama?"
Mama: "Beer, a drink for adults."
Lucy: " But what does it taste like, Mama."
Mama: "Well, its hard to describe but it doesn't taste anything like apple juice."
Lucy: "I think I don't want to taste BEAR juice - it would be yucky. But what kind of BEARS do they use to get the juice?"
Mama: "Well, BEAR juice doesn't sound very good to me either - I'm not sure what BEARS they use ask Daddy when he gets home"
_______

And then Lucy, AKA the Cleaning Fairy, was helping me clean out the car in the front yard and Mrs. Jessica stopped by to talk with us. All of a sudden Mrs. Jessica's eyes got really big and she said "DEER!" There were two deer in our backyard eating in our garden. They were babies - still had their spots. They knocked over a sunflower on their way over the hill. Now I know what has been nibbling on our plants!

First Day of Kindergarten

Samuel started Kindergarten today and had a wonderful time. He told me all about the stations in the room (play, science, reading, puzzle, etc) and who gets to go to what station and what happens if you don't clean up your station (he likes to know the rules!).

He was super excited that he got to play on the computer in the library "I made an alien with a head, furry hair and NO eyes - isn't that funny, Mama?" and for snack he got to have "vanilla WIPERS and cheese". I told him they were wafers not wipers but he wasn't convinced I knew what I was talking about. My sweet boy is growing up fast ... I think I love him even more today than yesterday...how does that happen!?

After we dropped Samuel off at school I took Lucy for a special treat to have donuts. She was super excited and it made the first day of school special for her too.

The catapult

For Samuel's birthday we made catapults for the boys and they used them to fire marshmellows at the dragons. (Samuel wanted a life-size catapult so they could shoot stuff but I told him we would have to settle for handheld catapults.) Samuel, Lucy and I had a great time making them and have played with them since the party. I have found hard marshmellows under chairs, in the hallway, under pillows...maybe I need some better ammo for the house...fortunately the yard full of marshmellows melted in the rain or they were carried off by the ants.

We had most of the materials for the catapults at home (clothes pins from our clothesline, juice bottle tops, craft sticks, 1x3 in the garage, a hot glue gun and a circular saw to cut the board) Here it is - I found the ideas online. And here is the shield Samuel made for the party. He didn't want to copy the lion I printed out - he made his own.
